This striking flowering tree is the Yellow Poinciana, Peltophorum pterocarpum.

It is known for its large clusters of bright yellow flowers, which rise above the foliage and can cover much of the crown during the blooming season.

The leaves are finely divided and fernlike, giving the tree a soft, graceful appearance. This foliage resembles that of the Royal Poinciana, although the two trees belong to different genera.

After flowering, the tree produces flat, coppery-brown seedpods. The pods often remain on the branches for some time and create a second ornamental display after the flowers have faded.

Yellow Poinciana is native to tropical parts of Southeast Asia and northern Australia but is now widely planted in warm climates as a shade and street tree.

It grows into a broad, spreading tree and needs plenty of room for its canopy and roots. Its flowers attract bees and other pollinators, while the dense crown provides welcome shade.

With its feathery leaves, golden blossoms, and bronze-colored pods, the Yellow Poinciana offers interest through several stages of the year.
